Crankshaft Speed/Position Sensor and Camshaft Position Sensor Installation (Method 3)
NOTE
Method 3 applies to the crankshaft speed/position sensor and the camshaft position sensor.
Instructions for installation of the crankshaft speed/position sensor are listed below. Steps are
the same for the camshaft position sensor unless otherwise noted. Crankshaft speed/position
sensor shown.
Engine speed sensor is a fixed-depth sensor. There is no provision for adjustment.
1. Apply a light coat of clean engine oil to new O-ring (Figure 4, Item 4), and install onto sensor (Figure 4, Item
3).
2. Install sensor (Figure 4, Item 3) and screw (Figure 4, Item 2) onto engine (Figure 4, Item 5).
NOTE
The crankshaft speed/position sensor and the camshaft position sensor are the only ECM
sensors that require an additional measurement step to complete the installation. If, after the
sensor(s) has been installed, the air gap measurement is not within the specification below,
replace the crankshaft speed/position sensor. There is no method of adjustment.
3. Measure air gap between crankshaft speed/position sensor (Figure 4, Item 3) and crankshaft speed indicator
ring (Figure 4, Item 6). Discard engine speed sensor if air gap is not between 0.032 0.060 inches (in) (0.8
1.5 millimeters (mm)).
4. Connect wiring harness (Figure 4, Item 1) to sensor (Figure 4, Item 3).
