INSPECT BEARING UNITS.
Bearing units are highly polished.
Avoid contact with bare fingers. Skin
oils can erode polished surfaces.
Wear clean cotton or polyester gloves
when handling bearing units.
a.
Visually inspect bearing units (29), surfaces H,
for nicks, chips, scoring, or discoloration.
b.
Visually inspect interior surfaces I for signs of
out-of-roundness and scoring. Insert shafts of
drive gear and idler gear into bearing units.
Shafts should fit snug with no looseness when
shaft is wiggled from side to side in any direction.
c.
If nicks, chips, scoring, discoloration, or out-of-
roundness are found on bearing units (29),
replace both bearing units.
