The paving machine should bewashed down if the machine will be sitting idle for longenough to allow hot paving material to cool and harden.Use the following procedures for operating the spraywashdown system.Consult your installationenvironmental control officer for yourinstallation’s proper procedures fordisposing, or reclaiming, sprayeddiesel fuel before washing downpaving machine.a.Park the paving machine on level ground, andleave the machine running.b.Place control handles (1) in neutral.c.Place the paving machine in the followingconfiguration prior to starting spray washdown.(1)Place travel switch (2) in the down, neutral"N" position.(2)Raise the screed by holding the screed liftswitch (3) to the up LIFT position.(3)Move left extension screed control switch (4) to theleft and the right switch to the right to fully extend bothextension screeds.The screed can fall rapidly. Do notlower the screed if anyone is near orunder the screed. Falling screed cancause severe injury or death.(4)Lower the screed to the ground by holdingscreed lift switch (3) in the down, FLOATposition.(5)Lower hopper wings by holding bothhopper wing switches (5) in the down,LOWER position.(6)Lower flow gates by holding the flow gateswitches (6) in the down, CLOSE position.d.Perform paving machine shutdown procedureper paragraph 2.11.3-26
