(28) Inspect charge pump assembly (8, fig. 3-4) for damage or excess
wear. If
inner or
outer
rotor are scratched or galled, the gears must be replaced as a set. (Refer to fig. 3-47.) Rotate one gear
within the other to check for free action. If action seems stiff in a particular area, use a hard Arkansas
stone and lightly touch up the gear edges. Recheck for free rotation.

(29) Position pin (9, fig. 3-4) in
shaft keyway. Install charge pump assembly (8) over keyway
on pump shaft (53). Check for proper pin engagement by attemtping to rotate inner gear on shaft. If
gear turns on shaft, remove gear, reposition pin and repeat installation of charge pump assembly.
(30) Install the spacer assembly (7) over the charge pump assembly (8) positioning the short
end of the roll pin in the lower valve plate (10). (Refer to fig. 3-48.) Use a depth gage to confirm 0.001-
0.0035 clearance between the top of the spacer assembly (7, fig. 3-4) and the top of the charge pump
