Turbocharger Removal -- Continued.
WARNING
The turbocharger gets very hot and requires more time to cool down than other parts of the
engine assembly. Shut down the engine and allow it to cool sufficiently before performing checks,
services, or maintenance. Wear gloves and additional protective clothing. Failure to comply may
cause injury or death to personnel.
CAUTION
Do not reuse damaged air intake and exhaust hoses. High intake or exhaust restrictions may
cause a vacuum between the compressor and turbocharger housing resulting in oil leaking past
the seal ring at the compressor (intake) side. Failure to comply will cause damage to equipment.
1. Remove dirt and debris from turbocharger.
NOTE
The exhaust pipe elbow is connected to an adapter by means of a loop clamp. Unless
damaged, the exhaust pipe elbow and adapter need not be separated.
Some oil will leak out of hoses and connection points when disconnecting or connecting
components. Have a drain pan and wiping rags in place to capture spilled oil.
2. Remove two bolts (Figure 1, Items 13) and heat shield (Figure 1, Item 12) from exhaust pipe mounting
bracket (Figure 1, Item 14).
3. Remove loop clamp (Figure 1, Item 10) and exhaust pipe (Figure 1, Item 11) from exhaust connector (Figure
1, Item 8).
4. Remove two bolts (Figure 1, Items 15) and exhaust pipe mounting bracket (Figure 1, Item 14) from exhaust
manifold.
5. Remove four exhaust pipe adapter bolts (Figure 1, Item 9), exhaust connector (Figure 1, Item 8), and turbine
outlet gasket (Figure 1, Item 7) from turbine (Figure 1, Item 16). Discard turbine outlet gasket.
6. Remove any residual gasket material from turbine (Figure 1, Item 16) and exhaust connector (Figure 1, Item
8).
7. Remove loop clamp (Figure 1, Item 2) and air intake hose (Figure 1, Item 1) from compressor (Figure 1, Item
3).
8. Remove loop clamp (Figure 1, Item 5), compressor outlet hose (Figure 1, Item 6), and O-ring (Figure 1, Item
4) from compressor (Figure 1, Item 3). Discard O-ring.
NOTE
Capture spilled oil In Accordance With (IAW) local Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
9. Remove oil supply line (Figure 1, Item 23) and O-ring (Figure 1, Item 22) from oil supply line adapter (Figure
1, Item 21), and cap/plug oil supply line. Discard O-ring.
