ENGINE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE (ECM) SENSOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
NOTE
Six engine-mounted sensors send signals to the engine ECM.
Three methods are used to remove and install engine ECM sensors. Method 1, the sensor is
threaded and installed directly into the engine and sealed with an O-ring. Method 2 mounts
the sensor directly to its mounting location using a single screw. Method 3 uses a mounting
screw to secure the sensor to the engine with an O-ring to seal the sensor. Table 1 identifies
the sensors, their location, and their removal/installation method. Examples of the
removal/installation methods are described below.
Determine the installation method required to replace the selected sensor using Table 1
Some ECM harness connectors are removed by pressing a tab on the side of the connector.
Other connectors have a separate sliding tab lock (Figure 1) that must be released before
pressing the tab to release the connector. The coolant temperature sensor connector has a
locking clip that must be pulled away from the connector before connector can be removed.
