TM 5-3895-373-207.1.GENERALMAINTENANCEPROCEDURES.All unit level maintenance shall be performed inaccordance with good and safe shop practices. Observethe following general instructions and requirements whenperforming electrical system maintenance.a.When removing tie wraps from hoses and wiring,note or mark locations and anchor points. Theproper location and installation of tie wraps willprevent undue chafing of hoses and wiring.b.Always tag mating connectors and fittings beforedisconnecting. Tagging of mating connectorsand fittings will ease reassembly and reduceassembly errors.c.Thread locking compound is used with mostthreaded fasteners. If a threaded fastener willnot break loose, heat threaded area of fastenerfrom 500° to 600°F (232° to 315°C) with heatergun. If the special solvent used to removethread locking compound from screw threadsfails to remove buildup, discard fastener.d.Discard all removed gaskets, seals, preformedpackings, self-locking nuts, and lockwashers.e.Inspect all removed components for obviouswear or damage. Replace all worn, bent,broken, or otherwise damaged parts.f.Inspect all removed fasteners for threaddamage. If thread damage is found, replacefastener. Replace flat washers if galled or bent.Use screw extractor set (Item 15, Appendix E) toremove broken studs or screws.g.Repair damaged harness wiring and terminalsaccording to instructions in paragraph 7.20.NOTEMale connectors on paving machinemost often house female terminals(receptacles, jacks). Mating femaleconnectors house male terminals(plugs). Plug/jack nomenclature intext and diagrams is based on natureof connector terminals (male orfemale), not on appearance ofconnector housing.h.To keep connections moisture free, always applyelectrical insulating compound to male connectorof plug/jack type electrical connectors.i.To seal screw fastened electrical connectionsagainst moisture, always apply electricalinsulating varnish to reinstalled terminals andfasteners.j.Use only authorized replacement parts. Refer toTM 53895-373-24P, Repair Parts and SpecialTools List (RPSTL) for authorized replacementparts.k.Observe all warnings and cautions. Wearprotective clothing and equipment as specified.Observe the Safety and Hazard Warningsprovided in TACOM technical bulletin TB 43-0216.7-2
