Thermostat Installation
CAUTION
Do not let dirt or debris fall into the cooling system. Failure to comply may cause damage to
equipment.
Ensure a new thermostat seal is installed every time the thermostat is installed. Failure to
comply may cause damage to equipment.
Install the spring end of the thermostat into the cylinder head cavity. Failure to comply may
cause engine overheating and damage to internal engine components.
1. Install thermostat (Figure 1, Item 6) into cavity (Figure 1, Item 5) in cylinder head (Figure 1, Item 4).
2. Install new seal (Figure 1, Item 1) onto thermostat (Figure 1, Item 6).
3. Install thermostat housing (Figure 1, Item 2) over thermostat (Figure 1, Item 6) and onto cylinder head (Figure
1, Item 4), and install three cap screws (Figure 1, Item 3) onto cylinder head finger-tight.
4. Torque cap screws (Figure 1, Item 3) to 89 inch-pounds (in-lb) (10 Newton meters (Nm)).
END OF TASK
FOLLOW-ON TASK
1. Install coolant hose at radiator cooler intake (WP 0365).
2. Check coolant level, and top-off cooling system as required (WP 0367).
3. Verify proper operation.
4. Dispose of soiled rags In Accordance With (IAW) local Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
