TM 5-3895-373-102.22SCREEDCROWNCONTROL.a.Remove the two thumbscrews holding thecrown adjustment wrench to the screed andremove the wrench.b.Grab the screed steps at the front edge of thetop step. Lift and pull the steps up and awayfrom the tractor.CAUTIONDo not pinch or crush fuel hose whenadjusting screed crown adjustment. Apinched or crushed fuel hose can resultin a fuel leak.c.Using crown adjustment wrench, loosen hex nutto free screed crown adjustment.NOTEPointer for screed crown adjustment isprovided for reference only and does notindicate an actual crown value.d.Turn the screed crown adjustment down for anegative crown or up for a positive crown. Noteposition of pointer on scale for future use.e.When desired crown is achieved, tighten the hexnut to lock screed crown adjustment in place.f.Replace the crown adjustment wrench on thescreed and replace thumbscrews.g.Lift and push the screed steps forward until fullyseated.2.23PAVINGPROCEDURE.2.23.1PreparationforPaving.a.Start paving machine per paragraph 2.10.b.Use spray washdown procedures per paragraph3.3.7 and wet all surfaces that come in contactwith paving material before starting to pave.c.Set the throttle control to the desired speed.Select desired speed by rapidly moving thethrottle control switch to IDLE, then to the centerdetent to reduce speed. Rapidly move theswitch to MAX, then to the center detent toincrease speed.d.Place screed lift switch to the up, RAISE positionand fully raise the screed. Close screed travellock valve per paragraph 2.1.4.e.Move the paving machine into position where thescreed can be lowered to the exact point whichthe mat is to begin.2-46
