TM 5-3895-373-101.14.2StrikeoffPlates.Strikeoff plates attach to themain screed and extension screeds. The strikeoff platesregulate the amount of paving material that reaches theleading edge of the TM 5-3895-373-1 0main and extension screed plates. When the extensionscreed is hydraulically extended, the strikeoff platesextend the full width of the extension screed.1.14.3Endgates.An endgate is attached to each sideof the screed to prevent the outward movement of pavingmaterial beyond the material mat being laid. Theendgates provide the finished edge to the pavingmaterial. Each endgate is equipped with two hand leversthat are used to adjust the position of the endgate. Thehand levers are attached to the bottom of the endgatesby a chain. When the hand levers are moved backward, the endgate is lowered. When the hand levers aremoved forward, the endgate is raised. Each hand levercan be moved independently forward or backward forspecific material applications.1.14.4FeedLimitSwitches.The feed limit switches arelocated on the inside of the endgates, forward of thescreed leading edge. The feed limit switches maintain aconstant level of paving material in front of the screedwhen the auger/conveyor system is in automatic mode. When the amount of material falls below the desiredamount, the paddle portion of the limit switch will moveinward. This movement causes the auger/conveyorsystem to start and pulls more material back to thescreed. The paving material level rises until the paddlemoves outward. This action stops the auger/conveyorsystem.1-9
