Engine Oil Filter Replacement -- Continued.
3. Place wiping rag under engine oil filter (Figure 3, Item 3).
4. Remove engine oil filter (Figure 3, Item 3).
5. Drain engine oil filter (Figure 3, Item 3) into drain pan. Discard engine oil filter In Accordance With (IAW) local
Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) when fully drained.
6. Remove any excess engine oil from engine oil filter (Figure 3, Item 3) mounting surface on oil filter manifold
(Figure 3, Item 1).
7. Apply thin coat of clean engine oil to rubber gasket (Figure 3, Item 2) of new engine oil filter (Figure 3, Item 3).
CAUTION
Never start engine with a dry oil filter. Failure to comply may cause damage to equipment.
8. Fill new engine oil filter (Figure 3, Item 3) with 0.5 quarts (0.95 L) of approved engine oil (Table 1).
9. Install new engine oil filter (Figure 3, Item 3) onto oil filter manifold (Figure 3, Item 1), and hand-tighten.
10. Close engine cover (Figure 1, Item 3).
11. Press three latches (Figure 1, Item 1) against engine cover (Figure 1, Item 3) to secure latches and engine
cover.

WARNING
BMPM engine cover is heavy. Support engine cover carefully when opening or closing. Open
engine cover completely when accessing or working on engine. Failure to comply may cause
injury or death to personnel.
1. Press buttons on three engine cover latches (Figure 1, Item 1) to release latches.
2. Raise engine cover (Figure 1, Item 3) fully, and remove dirt and debris from area around engine oil fill cap
(Figure 4, Item 2).
