PREPARATIONFORSTORAGE.The following paragraphs cover the unit level equipmentservices required to prepare the 780T bituminous asphaltpaving machine for short term and long term storage.Short term storage requirements apply when the pavingmachine is taken out of use for a period of one month toone year (30 to 360 days). Long term storagerequirements apply when the paving machine is takenout of use for any period greater then one year.2.25.1. AdministrativeStoraqe. Administrative storageof equipment issued to and used by Army activities willhave Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services(PMCS) performed before storing. When removing theequipment from administrative storage, the PMCSchecks should be performed to assure operationalreadiness.2.25.2. PreparationforShortTermStoraqe. Performthe following maintenance procedures whenever thepaving machine is taken out of use for at least onemonth and up to one year.a.Fill cooling system with 50% antifreezeconforming to FED O-A 548 and 50% water.b.Fill crankcase to operating level per LO 5-3895-37312.c. Remove cap assembly from air cleaner intaketube and seal open port of intake tube with tape.d.Relieve fan belt tension.e.Seal fuel tank cap vent with tape.f. Fill pump drive gearbox to operating level per LO53895-373-12.g.Seal pump drive gearbox breather with tape.h.Fill speed reduction gearbox to operating levelper LO 5-3895-373-12.i. Fill hydraulic reservoir to operating level per LO53895-373-12.j. Coat exposed surfaces of all hydraulic cylinderpiston rods with engine preservativeoilconforming to MIL-L-2 1260.k. Seal hydraulic reservoir fill port with tape.l. Disconnect battery cables and coat cable endswith preservative compound conforming to MIL-C-11796, Class 3. Wrap battery cable ends withbarrier material.m. Apply fresh lubricating grease to all lubricationfittings per LO 5-3895-373-12.n.Seal all alternator openings with tape.o.Seal pipe elbow protective cap with tape.2.25.3. PreparationforLonqTermStoraqe.Performthe following maintenance procedures whenever thepaving machine is taken out of use for any period greaterthan one year.a.Drain cooling system.b.Relieve fan belt tension.c. Seal all alternator openings with tape.d.Preserve engine.(1)Drain crankcase oil.(2)Fill crankcase with MIL-L-21260preservation oil.(3)Remove fuel injectors.(4)Put 2 tsp of MIL-L-21260 preservation oilinto each cylinder.(5) Reinstall fuel injectors.2-471
