6. ENGINE KNOCKING - Continued.
Step 2.
Check if engine temperature is 194°F (90°C) or greater.
If engine temperature is 194°F (90°C) or greater, perform steps I and 2 of MALFUNCTION 8.
OVERHEATING.
Step 3. Check if engine is audibly misfiring.
If engine is audibly misfiring, adjust intake and exhaust valves, if necessary, per TM 5-3895-373-
20.
Step 4.
Remove and inspect intake and exhaust valves, push rods, springs, and guides. Refer to
paragraph 2.17.
Replace or repair intake/exhaust valves and valve seat inserts showing signs of pitting.
Replace push rods, springs, and guides as necessary. Refer to paragraph 2.17.
Step 5.
Check for worn cylinder bores, broken/worn, or sticking piston rings, worn/damaged bearings, piston
seizure or incorrect piston height. Refer to paragraph 2.17.
Replace worn or damaged components. Refer to paragraph 2.17.
Step 6.
Close front top left access door per TM 5-3895-373-10.
