HowtoPerformDiaqnosticMaintenanceProcedures. Paving machine diagnostic procedures arepresented in a logic flowchart. A separate flowchart isprovided for each major system of the machine. In someprocedures separate flowcharts are used to troubleshootspecific paving machine functions. Each diagnostic flowchart uses a series of logical steps. The steps are numbered in sequence, starting withnumber "1". Each numbered step presents you with adiagnostic procedure and a question about the outcomeof the procedure. For each step an INFO KNOWN blockstates what is known about the problem at the time. APOSSIBLE PROBLEMS block indicates what problemscould be causing the malfunction. TEST OPTIONSpresents methods or test equipment available forperforming the procedure. A REASON FOR QUESTIONblock states the logic behind the procedure. The basicinformation required for troubleshooting is presented inupper case text. When performing a diagnostic procedure, start with stepnumber "1". Perform each step in sequence and answerthe related questions. Each question can be answeredwith "YES" or "NO". Based on the "YES" or "NO"answer, continue through the flowchart until you remedythe problem or until the problem is referred to the DirectSupport (DS) level of maintenance. The numbered diagnostic procedures and relatedinformation blocks are always presented on the left handpage. On the facing right hand page, supportinformation for use by less experienced personnel ispresented in lower case text. Procedural WARNINGSand CAUTIONS to be observed are given here. Allpersonnel shall observe the warning and cautionstatements.Paving machine electrical and hydraulic systemdiagrams are included for reference at the end of themaintenance manual.2-33
