Measuring for Voltage
1. Inspect all electrical connections for damaged, bent, corroded, and unseated terminals.
2. Move multimeter power switch to Direct Current (DC) voltage position.
3. Connect red meter lead to voltage supply wire.
4. Connect black meter lead to known good ground.
5. Follow steps in troubleshooting (WP 0004, Vol 1).
END OF TASK
Measuring for Open Condition
1. Inspect all electrical connections for damaged, bent, corroded, and unseated terminals.
3. Connect red meter lead to one end of wire to be tested.
4. Connect black meter lead to opposite end of wire being tested.
5. Observe display. If resistance is 0 Ω, open is present in wire. It may be necessary to wiggle wire harness to
locate open.
END OF TASK
Measuring for Short to Ground
1. Inspect all electrical connections for damaged, bent, corroded, and unseated terminals.
3. Connect red meter lead to one end of wire to be tested.
4. Connect black meter lead to known good ground.
5. Observe display. If resistance is equal to or less than 5 Ω, short to ground is present in wire. It may be
necessary to wiggle wire harness to locate short.
END OF TASK
Measuring for Short to Another Wire
1. Inspect all electrical connections for damaged, bent, corroded, and unseated terminals.
3. Disconnect both ends of wiring harness in question.
4. Connect red meter lead to one end of wire to be tested.
5. Connect black meter lead wire to possible shorted wire.
6. Observe display. If resistance is equal to or less than 5 Ω (and should not be so), short to wire is present in
wire. It may be necessary to wiggle wire harness to locate short.
